Cassidy Wines has recently formed a distributor alliance with one of the finest wine makers in the Loire Valley – Pascal Jolivet. Wine.com describes Jolivet as, ‘one of the youngest and most dynamic in the Loire Valley’ and his wines have appeared in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 wines in the world.
A recent tasting in Dublin showed us how brilliant both the wines and the man really are. Each is humble, quietly spoken and brimming with conviction!
Pascal Jolivet is a minimalist and believes in allowing nature to take its own course in aiding him to make great wine from both the Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé appellations in central France. Thus, indigenous yeasts and natural winemaking are encouraged. He tells us that, ‘Crafting a wine is a great outlet to become creative, a kind of art that asks us to listen to mother nature to better perceive and understand her messages. Magic happens while grapes are transformed into juice, then into wine and gives back to the terroir its nobility‘.
White Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé wines are based on the Sauvignon Blanc grape. In the Loire these are – compared to the modern New Zealand style – understated, elegant, deeply satisfying and redolent in an extreme sense to their origin. Red Sancerre is made with Pinot Noir and, in the case of Pascal’s wines, the Rosè is a blend of Pinot Noir, Grenache and Cabernet Franc.
All of Pascal’s wines are excellent and his entry-level Attitude Sancerre 2017 works a treat with precise acidity, generous fruit and length.
Highly Recommend : Pascal Jolivet Pouilly Fumé Single Vineyard 2017 where the vineyard speaks out to us with a limestone derived minerality allied to a flintstone (silex) sharpness. Fruit is deep-seated and rich with an enveloping welcome.
The good news is that it doesn’t stop there! If you see a Jolivet evening at a wine club or restaurant near you then dive in! You might be lucky enough to try these other incredible top of the line Pascal Jolivet wines! Mind you, what a great gift …
