I receive a Christmas card from a few wine companies. Every now and then I also receive a wine book they might have written and published. Then I feel special when one of these enterprises invites me to taste their top end wines – even though some of these are not even on sale here. It’s extra special when a member of the wine family in question presents the tasting. Hang on, only one wine family has ever ticked all of these boxes. More than once!

I vote every year in Wine International’s ‘The World’s Most Admired Wine Brand‘. It’s a big and special competition to find what members of the wine trade consider the very best brand of wine. There are simply thousands to choose from and only one makes it to the top of the list. Last Christmas this years’ winner sent the card. Again. Detail works well with the Catena family.

The Catena wines are brought to us in Ireland by the very capable Cassidy Wines. They distribute from the very affordable Catena label to icon wines from some of the highest vineyards in the world. I will never forget how seriously brilliant the Catena White Bones Chardonnay 2009 tasted – and I only tasted it once. Memories are what detail is all about and Catena has that in spades.
