Its an interesting concept. Lidl is bringing in Specials for each of what they describe as their Iberian, French and Italian Wine Cellars. Each sale will last six weeks.
From June 11th the French Cellar Specials at Lidl are open for business. Try these two while the sunshine lasts. You won’t be disappointed.
White: Bordeaux AOP Cour de Mandalotte 2016 €8.99 Refreshing bright fruit with lots of depth and interest. Great for a warm evening! Serve well chilled.
Red: Bordeaux Le Ballon Bleu 2016 €8.99 Lovely simplicity here. Fruit and enjoyment with just enough structure that the barbecue will be all the better for the wine! Super value.

Jumilla Gamellon 2015 Spain 14.5% €9.99 I love the rich textured tones of wines from Jumilla. Thing is they are a bit alcoholic and so its always good to find one where the balance between fruit, and all the other bits is just right ….
Ribera del Duero Joven 2016 Spain 13% €8.99 way up north Ribera gives us some of the finest wines in Spain. Its seldom we get one that’s so good at this price! Fine structure here.
Torre de Ferro Dao 2015 Portugal 13.5% €7.99 What great value this wine is! rich and soft and long. Defy anyone not to like this at the barbecue.
Montes Claros Reserva Alentejo 2014 Portugal 14% €11.99 Go for it. Big and rich and alcoholic but at the same time oh, so modern. Love the wine making here where structure and fruit have a super balance.

Spanish Wine Week is perfectly designed for both foodies and wine lovers, giving guests the opportunity to feel the passion and learn more about Spanish wines in a series of events – tastings, talks, special restaurant and wine shop offers and competitions – all organised by Wines from Spain.
Every day of Spanish Wine Week gives people the opportunity to experience a different area, aspect or flavour from the wide variety of excitingly diverse areas and regions that make up the most widely planted wine-producing nation and the third largest producer of wine in the world.
The fun begins on Friday, 20th April with two events at CLIFF properties – Cliff House Hotel and Cliff Townhouse. Wines from Spain are partnering with West Waterford Festival of Food to bring a little Spain to the south during the festival weekend with a Chef’s Table Dinner at Cliff House Hotel, Co. Waterford where Michelin star Chef Martijn Kajuiter will host an intimate Chef’s Table Dinner in House restaurant championing local producers and paired with wines from the Rueda and Bierzo regions. On the same evening in Dublin, Cliff Townhouse on St. Stephen’s Green will be hosting a Taste of Gran Canaria, a place close to Head Chef Sean Smith whose wife is from the region. The talented chef will pair Spanish dishes including grilled chorizo, quail egg with sourdough, octopus, paprika, olive oil and grilled white asparagus and tomato tartare clams with wines from the region. Each course and wine will be introduced by Sunday Business Post wine writer Tomas Clancy. Dinner costs €79.00 per person and can booked directly by emailing email@example.com.
On Monday 23rd April, energetic Niall Sabongi will be leading a Klaw Krawl with Rías Baxias taking guests on a walking tour of three locations – Klaw Temple Bar, Klaw Poké and The Seafood Café with signature dishes from each restaurant paired with wines from the Rías Baxias region and some demonstrations throughout. On Tuesday 24th April, Sunday Business Post wine writer Tomas Clancy will hosting Top Summer Wines at Whelehans Wines at 7.15pm, tickets cost €25 per person. In Cork, Rafael Salazar of Vinostito will be leading a tasting of ‘Atlantic vs Mediterranean’ in L’Atitude 51, the legendary wine café in Cork city. Beginning at 7.30 pm. Rafael Salazar will present a selection of wines and the L’Atitude 51 kitchen will prepare some tasty tapas to match.
On Wednesday 25th April, Instituto Cervantes in Dublin will tease the tastebuds and get the hips moving with a night of Flamenco, Fino Tio Pepe and Iberian Ham starting at 6.30 p.m. Flamenco dancer Sandra Palomar and Instituto Cervantes Dublin’s flamenco group will present a show of pure Andalusian art after which all attendees get to taste two of the most recognisable gourmet products of Spanish gastronomy – delicious Iberian ham, and sensational sherry unique to the Andalusian area of Jerez introduced by sherry expert Paddy Murphy. On the same night, Rafael Salazar of Vinostito will be hosting a ‘Spain, no bull’ talk and tasting at Green Man Wines from 7pm and tickets cost €35.
Thursday 26th April sees events across the country – Wicklow, Dublin, Kildare and Galway – a Spanish wine dinner with John Wilson in La Touche Wines in Greystones.
Grand masters of wine in Ireland, ELY BAR & GRILL, will be hosting a Cava & Canapés tasting led by wine expert and sommelier Ian Brosnan starting at 7pm, tickets cost €40 per person find out more at www.elywinebar.ie.

On Sunday 29th April wine supremos and multi award-winning wine obsessives The Twelve, take an in-depth look at wines from Rueda. Kicking off at 3 p.m. with a tasting of wines from the region introduced in his own inimitable style by flame-haired sommelier and general manager, Fergus O’Halloran and followed by supper prepared by talented chef Martin O’Donnell with dishes paired with wines from Rueda.
